Under the Patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences
Sunit Singhi is an acknowledged global leader in Pediatric Critical Care. He was President of World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies from 2014 to 2016 and was Vice President in 2012-13. He set up India’s first Pediatric Intensive care Unit and first postdoctoral Fellowship Course (DM) in Pediatric Critical Care at PGIMER, Chandigarh. He has received more than a dozen research grants from international and national agencies including World Health Organization and Indian Council of Medical Research and has authored more than 375 peer-reviewed publications, 70 textbook chapters and 11 books. His major research area includes fluid-electrolytes and neurocritical care, which contributed to abandonment of practice of fluid restriction in acute meningitis, cerebral perfusion pressure targeted therapy in CNS infections, use of valproate and midazolam infusions in status epilepticus caused by CNS infections, probiotics in prevention of Candidiasis, inhaled corticosteroids and infusion of MgSO4 in acute asthma, and treatment of childhood pneumonia. He has several awards to his credit including that from Indian Council for Medical Research for research in Child Health- 2010, from National Academy of Medical Sciences 2013 for eminent teacher, Swasth Bharat Samman - 2011 for excellence in public service, Claris Critical Care Oration Award –2003, Life Time Achievement Award of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, Indian Academy of Pediatrics, and several medals, orations and best paper prizes including BMJ’s South East Asia Award for Best Research paper of the year 2015. He serves as an Associate Editor – Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and as a Section Editor- Rogers’textbook Of Pic, Oxford Textbook Of Pic
Dr. Mjaye Mazwi completed medical School at the University of Zimbabwe. He pursued Pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and both Cardiology and Critical Care fellowships at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Harvard Medical School. He is currently a Staff Physician in Cardiac Critical Care at the Hospital for Sick Children and directs the Clinical Translational Engineering Program in Critical Care. His research interests include engineering the capture of high-resolution, continuous physiological data from the patient bedside through to analysis and incorporation of this data in predictive models that guide care and support clinical decision making. Dr Mazwi is a founding member of the Laussenlabs research group at the Hospital for Sick Children and a Project Investigator in Translational Medicine at The SickKids Research Institute.
Professor Zimmerman received BS and PhD degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, majoring in biochemistry, oncology and organic chemistry. He also received an MD degree and Pediatric residency training at the same institution. Subsequently he received fellowship training at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center in Washington DC, that included research experience at the National Institutes of Health. Zimmerman is an active attending physician at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Harborview Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) in Seattle, WA. Previously he served as Division Chief for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Wisconsin and University of Washington Schools of Medicine. As Co-editor of the textbook, Pediatric Critical Care, he is familiar with the academic landscape of Pediatric critical care. Currently Zimmerman serves as a satellite site Principal Investigator for the Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network (CPCCRN), and the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI) Network. He is principal investigator for the NIH/NICHD, Life After Pediatric Sepsis Evaluation (LAPSE) investigation. Since 2010, he has served in leadership roles for the Society of Critical Care medicine and is currently Immediate Past President for that organization. He has served on the American Board of Paediatrics, Critical Care Medicine Sub-Board in various capacities since 1992. Zimmerman has been an Editorial Board member for Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine since 1993. In 2009 he received the American Academy of Paediatrics, Section on Critical Care, Distinguished Career Award. With over 30 years of experience, Zimmerman serves on many national leadership committees to advance Pediatric critical care.

Dr. Sofia Konstantinopoulou obtained her medical degree at the University of Athens Medical School in Athens, Greece. She completed a 3 year pediatric residency at The Unterberg Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. She then completed her training with fellowships in pediatric pulmonology and in pediatric sleep medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Philadelphia. She is board certified in General pediatrics, in Pediatric pulmonology and in Sleep medicine.
Dr. Konstantinopoulou worked as an attending pulmonologist in the division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at CHOP, and she was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
For the past 3 years, Dr. Konstantinopoulou has been working as a consultant in pediatric pulmonology at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi. Her clinical focus is in taking care of children with sleep disordered breathing, and specifically in children who require home mechanical ventilation.

Nazar Zaki is a Professor and Chair, Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering and Leader of the Data Science research group
and Bioinformatics group, College of Information Technology, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). His research interest is in the fields of
Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Healthcare, and Bioinformatics. He mainly focuses on developing intelligent models to solve problems in
specific domains such as biology, healthcare, and social networks. Dr. Zaki published more than 100 scientific results in reputable journals and
conferences. He received several scholarship awards such as the College Recognition Award for Excellence in Scholarship in 2007, 2012 and 2016,
respectively, the best paper award in leading conferences such as ACM Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference in 2011, Chancellor’s
Annotation Award in technology in 2015. Dr. Zaki is also a frequent recipient of certificates of achievement for publishing in top journals and
bringing recognition to the UAEU

Dr. Suhail Al-Amad is an Associate Professor at the University of Sharjah (UAE), and a Consultant in Oral Medicine at the University Dental Hospital Sharjah.
He received his bachelor degree in Dentistry from the University of Jordan, and his Diploma in Forensic Odontology and Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Oral Medicine from the University of Melbourne. Dr. Al-Amad holds the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the special field of Oral Medicine, and the Australian Dental Board Certificates in both Oral Medicine and General Dentistry.
Dr. Al-Amad is the Chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Sharjah, and the vice-chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee of Dubai Healthcare City. He has been engaged in training academics and researchers on Research Ethics in the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain and Morocco through a research ethics training initiative by the University of Maryland that is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
He recently contributed to a book on Research Ethics in the Arab World by writing a chapter on the Responsible Conduct of Research. The book is edited by Professor Henry Silverman and published by Springer International.
Dr. Emad is a Paediatric Intensivist at Al Jalila Children's PICU for the last 4years. He is trained and graduated from Mansoura University Children's Hospital (MUCH), Egypt and had MRCPCH in pediatrics and European diploma of Pediatric Intensive Care (EPIC). Dr. Emad has about 15 years of experience in PICU, having worked as a paediatric intensivist in Egypt and as a Senior Specialist PICU in MOH, Kuwait. He has in depth PubMed publication about hemodynamics and extensively lectured about ECMO, ARDS and others.
Amal Hussein is currently a Lecturer in the Family and Community Medicine & Behavioral Sciences Department at the College of Medicine, University of Sharjah, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates since 2007. Before joining the College of Medicine, Amal was a Lecturer at the College of Health Sciences at the same university since 2002. She graduated from the American University of Beirut in 1999 with an MPH degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and is currently pursuing her PhD studies. Amal is currently a member in two Research Ethics Committees at University of Sharjah, and Dubai Healthcare City, and a member in the Epidemiology Unit at the University of Sharjah.
Amal teaches medical students courses in Epidemiology, Research Methodology and Biostatistics with hands-on training on SPSS. She contributed in developing and running workshops in Research Methodology, Statistics for Non-Statisticians, and Evidence- Based Medicine. She has also contributed in many research projects as an epidemiologist and biostatistician. Her research interests and publications were mainly in medical education, psychometrics, and diabetes.
Mohamed B Abdelraheem Elfakky MD, FRCP, is a previous Associate professor of Pediatric Nephrology at the University of Khartoum.
Mohamed completed his MD in pediatrics at University of Khartoum. He was trained in Pediatric Nephrology in Sheffield and Nottingham - UK. He used to work at Soba University Hospital, Khartoum - Sudan where he established the 1st pediatric nephrology unit. He then Joined the multi-organ transplant centre - King Fahad Specialist hospital - Dammam - Saudi Arabia for 2 years then Al Jalila Childrens Speciality Hospital - Dubai. Currently he is a Pediatric Nephrology Consultant at the pediatric department - Al Qassimi Women and Children's Hospital - Ministry of Health - UAE.
He published more than 25 research paper and contributed to 2 chapters in textbooks and AKI and ISPD guidelines as well. Mohamed also participated in many regional and international meetings with lectures, workshops and guidelines.
In 2015 he has been awarded the FRCP by the Royal College of Physician for his significant contribution in Pediatric nephrology in his country and African developing countries.
Trained in general pediatrics from princess Rahma teaching hospital Jordan. Holding Jordanian board certification in pediatrics since 2004.He gained a wide experience in pediatrics while working in Jordan, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. In 2010, he joined the pediatric infectious diseases division at Tawam hospital and was trained in pediatric infectious disease. During his work in the filed of pediatric infectious diseases for the last 9 years He gained excellent experience in managing a wide range of complex pediatric infectious diseases cases.
Appointed as consultant pediatric infectious disease at Tawam hospital in 2015.
He developed multiple guidelines and contributed substantially in the establishment of pediatric stewardship program and RSV prophylaxis clinic at Tawam hospital.
Beside a long list of presentations at national and international conferences He has multiple research publications in the field of pediatric infectious diseases in peer review journals.
Outside clinical infectious diseases He has special interest in postgraduate medical education, along with that he was selected 3 times as the best teaching specialist /consultant at the level of Tawam pediatric residency program and in June 2018 He was appointed as a core faculty of Tawam pediatric residency program. In 2013 He received the customer service award and in 2018 He was selected among the best 1000 SEHA employee.
Dr. Anwar Alkhaja is Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Al Jalila Children’s with a sub specialization in Cleft lip and Palate surgery. He obtained his DDS from faculty of Medicine and Odontology, Umea University, Sweden in 1999 and was licensed to practice by Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare in March 2000. He started his residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and obtained the Swedish board certificate in July 2007. He then when on to pursue a two-year fellowship program in Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Gothenburg University, Sweden. After completion of his Fellowship in 2009 he returned to the UAE and has dedicated his clinical career to deliver care mainly to children born with cleft lip and palate deformity and Pediatric maxillofacial surgery and to set up protocols for management of infants and children with upper airway obstruction.
He completed his higher training in paediatric neurology in Scotland and England and then worked as a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children before joining Al Jalila Children`s Hospital in Dubai where he worked for a year a half. He held Honorary Senior Lecturer positions at Sheffield, Glasgow and Bristol Universities. He is a member of the British Paediatric Neurology Association (BPNA), International Child Neurology Association (ICNA) and the American Movement Disorders Society. Dr Babiker has published widely in peer-reviewed medical journals and has authored and co-authored several research papers, editorials and reviews. He is also the associate editor of the European Journal of Medical Case Reports. He has regularly contributed in many national and international conferences. His special interests include paediatric complex movement disorders and epilepsy besides general neurology and neurogenetics. Dr Babiker is an active member of the teaching faculties for the well-recognized Paediatric Epilepsy Training (PET 1 & 2) and the Paediatric Movement Disorders courses organized by the British Paediatric Neurology Association in the UK and internationally.
Dr. Marwa earned her PhD in 2015 and her MSc in 2010, both in Pediatric cardiology (They mainly focused on the nursing care provided for children with Congenital Heart Disease undergoing cardiac catheterization). She has journal publication in IOSR Journal of Nursing and Health Science and conference publication in the 15th international cardiology congress of Alexandria department of cardiology. Besides her academic responsibilities, Dr. Marwa is a key member of the Alexandria University nursing quality assurance unit, nursing measurement and assessment unit, and Alexandria University managerial and financial development team. She is the academic coordinator of Alexandria Faculty of Nursing Alumni Unit. Dr. Marwa is the Faculty of Nursing Coordinator at the Alexandria University Career Development and Entrepreneurship Center. She was the academic coordinator of intern students in different neonatal and Pediatric care departments. She was responsible for the clinical training of master students in different general and intensive care neonatal and Pediatric units.Dr. Marwa was the academic coordinator for the clinical training of undergraduate students in different general and intensive care neonatal and Pediatric units.
Graduate from Arabian Gulf University- Bahrain – in 1993. Did Pediatric residency program at McMaster University Hamilton Canada from 1998 to 2001 and then Pediatric cardiology fellowship in Ottawa and Toronto- Canada 2001 to 2003. Had the Canadian and American board certificate ion Pediatric and fellowship certificate in Pediatric cardiology from university of Ottawa- Canada. Had one year condense training in cardiac catheterization at Prince Sultan Cardiac Center in Riyadh. Start for the first time in the north Emirates the pediatric cardiac catheterization procedure in Ministry of health – Al Qassimi Hospital- and then in Dubai health authority.
She has many years of experience in Adult and Pediatric Critical Care/Transplant Units mostly in middle east countries. Ellen Grace graduated from West Visayas State University-Number 1 Top Performing Nursing School in Philippines. She started her nursing career in Philippines as adult medical ICU nurse. Then she went abroad. She was a PICU pioneer staff at Armed Forces -King Abdulaziz Airbase Hospital in Dhahran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. She moved to UAE and worked as a Team Lead and Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation/ECLS Specialist in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi (was managed by Cleveland Clinic).
In addition, she was working actively as Champion and super user for health informatics system (Cerner) in SKMC and Al Jalila Children’s Hospital. She initiated several projects for those hospitals. She was one of the Nursing Advisory Council for Electronic medical records in Dubai Health Authority. Within less than 1 year of joining AJCH, she was awarded by the CEO as Top Achiever and Best Performer as Charge Nurse.
Born in Scotland, raised and educated in England, Mark attended Medical School in London graduating at 22 yrs. old, he initially worked in General Internal Medicine, specialising in Paediatrics when he joined the Manchester Specialist Registrar Training scheme. He then went to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for subspecialty training in Paediatric Intensive Care.
Following a year in Birmingham, Mark went to Sydney (Westmead) and Vancouver (BC Children’s) for Fellowships in Pediatric Critical Care. He met his wife Serena during his fellowship in Vancouver. Returning to the UK he took up a Consultant post in PICU in Leicester in 2005. During his 10 years in Leicester Mark developed his Interests in ECMO and Cardiac ICU. In July 2015 he moved to SKMC Abu Dhabi where he has worked since. He took up the role of ECMO Director and PICU Quality Lead in 2016 and is a Consultant on the Pediatric Cardiac ICU team.
As well as his work Mark also enjoys Golf and Wind Surfing for relaxation.
He has previously worked as a Consultant Paediatrician and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the United Kingdom. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK) and, in addition, he holds a Masters in Epidemiology and Biomedical Statistics from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, U.K.) and also a master’s in medical education from the University of Dundee, U.K. He is a regular examiner for the RCPCH Clinical Examination as has extensively contributed to helping candidates for that examination. He is regularly invited as a speaker at conferences and has run many workshops in paediatrics and in research. His research interests include all aspects of clinical research, biostatistics, epidemiology, evidence-based medicine and medical education. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals, with over 120 publications indexed in PubMed. He has been a regular reviewer for several international medical journals and has also served in the Editorial Board of several peer-reviewed journals.
Hesham graduated from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2008 with a Pharm.D degree. He worked as a pediatric clinical pharmacist at Saad Specialist Hospital in the Kingdome of Saudi Arabia for 10 years after graduation.
He joined Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital (AJCH) in 2018 as a Clinical pharmacist in Neonatal and Pediatric Critical Care.
